Zijn de hoogtijdagen van de film voorbij? Het lijkt soms of de bioscopen gedomineerd worden door superheldenfilms en bij kassucces door superheldenfilm nummer 2, 3 en 4.
Toch kunnen we zeggen dat er ook deze eeuw nog heel veel mooie films gemaakt worden. Maar welke films zijn de meesterwerken van de 21e eeuw? De BBC wilde dat ook weten en vroeg aan 177 filmkenners van over de hele wereld wat zij de beste films sinds het jaar 2000 vonden.
Wetenswaardigheden op een rij:
- De helft van de ondervraagden was Amerikaan, 2/3 was man
- De top 100 worden 20 talen gesproken
- 57 films zijn engelstalig, daarna is Frans de meest gesproken taal met 13 films

- En staan bijna geen comedy’s in de lijst en slechts drie animatiefilms
